What are compression socks?

Compression socks are socks knitted with elastic fibers that fit more snugly than regular socks. Venasense compression socks use graduated compression, meaning the fit is firmest at the ankle and gradually lighter toward the knee. The result is a supportive hug around your legs that stays comfortable all day.

What does mmHg mean?

mmHg stands for millimeters of mercury, the standard unit for measuring pressure. In compression socks, the number tells you how firm the fit is. A higher number means a firmer squeeze.

What compression level should I choose?

Venasense offers 15-20 mmHg, a moderate level that most people find comfortable for everyday wear, travel, work, and sports. Firmer levels of 20-30 mmHg and above are typically chosen with guidance from a healthcare professional, so talk to your doctor if you're considering them or if you have a specific concern.

Do compression socks feel tight?

They feel snug, not painful. Most people describe the feeling as a firm, steady hug. If a pair pinches, leaves deep marks, or feels uncomfortable, you likely need a larger size.

What size compression socks should I get?

Choose your size by your shoe size. If you have larger calves or you're between sizes, choose the next size up.

How do I put on compression socks?

Turn the sock inside out down to the heel, slide your foot in, then roll the rest up your leg. Don't yank from the top. Take off rings, watches, and anything sharp first, since long nails and jewelry can snag the fibers.

How do I take them off?

Sit down, and roll them down from the top rather than pulling from the toe. Doing it slowly is more comfortable and is gentler on the fabric.

How long can I wear compression socks each day?

Most people wear them through their waking hours and take them off at night. If you'd like to wear them overnight, check with your doctor first.

Can I wear compression socks every day?

Yes! Knee-High Compression Socks are made for daily wear. We suggest owning at least two pairs so you can rotate them while one is washing.

How do I wash compression socks?

Hand wash in cold water with mild soap. Dry them flat in the shade. Don't tumble dry, don't hang them from clips, and skip fabric softener and bleach, since heat and harsh products break down the elastic fibers.

How long do compression socks last?

With proper care, Venasense socks last about 6 to 12 months of regular wear. For the best compression, we recommend replacing your socks every 6 months. Proper care (hand wash, dry flat in the shade) helps them last. When a pair starts feeling loose or slides down, it's time to replace it.

Can I wear compression socks on a plane?

Yes, and they're a favorite for long flights. Many travelers put them on before leaving for the airport and keep them on until they arrive.

Are compression socks good for running?

Many runners and cyclists like them for the snug, supportive fit and the way they stay put during activity. Our Ankle Compression Socks and Calf Sleeves are designed for sports.

What's the difference between compression socks and calf sleeves?

Calf sleeves cover the calf only and leave the foot bare, so you can wear them while exercising with any socks you like. Full compression socks cover the foot and leg together and can be used all day long. Athletes often prefer sleeves so they can keep their favorite running socks.

Can I wear compression socks during pregnancy?

Many people do wear them through pregnancy for the comfortable, supportive fit. Since every pregnancy is different, ask your doctor what's right for you.
